Charlie Cox Wants Daredevil Pushed To His Breaking Point In ‘Born Again’ Season 3

In Short
  • Charlie Cox envisions a darker, more dramatic season 3 of 'Daredevil: Born Again' that explores Matt Murdock's inner struggles.
  • The storyline may adapt the "Devil in Cell Block D" arc, placing Matt in a dangerous prison environment without protection.
  • This shift could alter the show's tone, focusing on Matt's moral dilemmas and potential descent into violence.

While the second season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is still in progress, the discussion has already turned to the next one, and Charlie Cox is not holding back.

The man behind Matt Murdock is looking forward to a more sinister, more dramatic season 3, one that would fully embrace the inner struggle of the character. And judging by his remarks, the following chapter may take Daredevil to a new level.

Cox has cited the Devil in Cell Block D plot as a dream arc to follow, a comic run that deprives Matt of control and plunges him into a world where survival is brutally personal.  The mere premise is enough to leave fans uncomfortable: Matt, a man who has imprisoned many criminals, is now in prison with them. No safety net. No protection. Just consequences.

Of course, being moved into Gen-Pop is disastrous for someone like Matt Murdock because he’s put so many of these people away. His life is gonna be in real danger. He can no longer be protected,” he told Discussingfilm. The danger is not the only thing that makes this idea so compelling, but rather the way Matt reacts to it.

Cox points out a chilling fact about the comic: when Matt is confronted with the reality of being put in the general population, he does not panic. Instead, there’s a hint of a smile. Everything is in that little, uncomfortable moment. It is a manifestation of the duality that has always characterized Daredevil, the eternal game of tug-of-war between his moral code and the part of him that doesn’t just endure violence, but sometimes welcomes it.

What This Could Mean For The Show’s Future

By going this way, ‘Born Again’ would not only increase the stakes but would entirely alter the tone. The legal drama with its feet-on-the-ground and street-level vigilantism might be replaced by something much more claustrophobic and intense. The prison environment would compel Matt to face his past choices head-on, without a mask to conceal himself.

It is also possible that familiar faces will come into the fray. Characters like Frank Castle, or the Punisher, are central to the comic plot. His rough, no-nonsense style would be incompatible with the moral dilemma that Matt is grappling with. That would be a dynamic that fans have long desired to see developed further.

However, behind the act and possible cameos, this concept is tapping into something more. It is about what Matt Murdock is when all is stripped away: his freedom, his control, even his righteousness. And that is where the interest lies. If Daredevil begins to take pleasure in the mayhem, even temporarily, it poses a dangerous question: how far is he willing to go before he loses himself completely?
