For years, many Marvel fans thought that Steve Rogers’ story was over. Chris Evans had been making a few hints that his days as Captain America were over after the emotional conclusion of ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

This is why each new piece of news regarding the actor’s Marvel future is exciting. It seems that Evans’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be further extended beyond ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, as the character will be given an even bigger role in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

Avengers: Doomsday’ is already confirmed to feature Evans, and he will be returning in a substantial role for the first time in the MCU since ‘Endgame’. The first few teasers of the movie indicate that Steve Rogers is in a very different stage of life.

However, instead of being the leader of the Avengers, he appears to have retired and created the future he helped to defend. That was enough to elicit emotional responses from die-hard fans. After all, since the MCU started in 2011, the story of Steve has been one of the most defining stories of the franchise.

Moreover, Evans’ Marvel return isn’t going to end with ‘Doomsday’, as evidenced by recent comments that were made on his behalf. “I can tell you that…I start work on the next one in a couple of months, I can tell you that,” Evans told a fan (@comicconmomsi)

If that’s the case, it could indicate that the actor will have a major role in the film that will cap the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. It’s an appropriate development. His return has an additional weight and a sense of nostalgia as Marvel readies itself for one of the biggest crossover events in the history of the franchise.

One of the more interesting tidbits of Evans’ return is that Marvel seems to be separating Steve Rogers from the mantle of Captain America. Sam Wilson is now the new bearer of the shield, and the MCU has ushered in a new era for the iconic title.

Nevertheless, ‘Secret Wars’ provides Marvel with a special chance. The movie will likely bring together characters from several worlds, eras, and generations of Marvel stories.

For those who have been watching the character for over a decade, it would be a momentous occasion to see him in his Captain America outfit one last time in that environment. There is also the fascinating dynamic between Evans’ Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

The actors were instrumental in the creation of the MCU, and their coming into opposite sides of a huge battle is too much to pass up. Regardless of whether Steve will return to the role he had or not, it’s becoming more apparent that Marvel isn’t ready to put Chris Evans down yet. That’s good news for many fans.
