Marvel fans have been debating for years whether ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ should have been a part of the MCU. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ could finally put the debate to rest with one little, but very significant detail, over a decade after the series’ original debut.
The Cybertek Reference Is Significant For Many Reasons

In the season 2 finale, the moment occurs in a flash. The series follows different characters following the fall of Wilson Fisk, and BB Urich is seen inside The New York Bulletin office, which used to belong to her uncle Ben. However, in the background, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a newspaper headline in a frame that read “Cybertek Settles.”

It’s a whole different ball game with that one Easter egg. Cybertek isn’t just a random Marvel company. It had a strong connection to Deathlok and was prominently featured in the first season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ So far, Marvel Studios projects have been careful not to directly reference the ABC series, despite the embrace of other older shows like ‘Daredevil’ and ‘The Punisher’.
That’s why this reference is more than just a fan service. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ had been languishing in a limbo for years. The series was always responsive to MCU events, like ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s destruction of SHIELD, and it also had a few ties to ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. However, the movies rarely did the same.
The disconnect finally began to be too large to ignore. The show brought in Inhumans, Ghost Rider, time travel, and whole world-changing situations that were totally ignored by the films. Fans began to wonder if the series was somehow in another time altogether. However, now, ‘Born Again’ seems to have appealed to the fold.
Marvel May Be Ready To Embrace ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

On the surface, the Cybertek Easter egg is a relatively insignificant detail. But on the inside, it’s a major triumph for fans who have been loyal to the show for years and years, fighting to keep it in the MCU. More importantly, it sets the stage for something greater to come later.
In case you missed it: The Real Threat In ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Isn’t Who You Think
The characters, like Quake, Phil Coulson, and even Ghost Rider, seem more plausible than ever before. Marvel Studios TV head Brad Winderbaum has already publicly expressed his good feelings about the series. This further fuels speculation of more connections in the future.
After seeing Marvel fully restore Daredevil to canon status, it honestly no longer feels impossible that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ could finally get the same respect.
