Angelina Jolie has stayed out of the spotlight as another one of her children takes legal steps to remove Brad Pitt‘s last name. Daughter Vivienne recently filed paperwork to officially become Vivienne Jolie, adding another chapter to the family’s long-running split from the Oscar winner.

A new insider claim now sheds light on how Jolie has reacted behind the scenes and why she believes her children deserve more understanding.

A source close to Jolie told Page Six that she is not reacting with anger as more of her children distance themselves from Brad Pitt’s surname.

Angie hasn’t been fighting and isn’t angry. She just wants everyone to heal,” the insider claimed. “If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them. The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency.”

Representatives for both Pitt and Jolie did not respond to Page Six’s requests for comment. Meanwhile, Vivienne filed paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court on July 20 asking to legally change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

Court documents obtained by Page Six list the reason simply as “personal.” Vivienne’s middle name honors Jolie’s late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007 after battling ovarian and breast cancer.

Vivienne’s legal filing marks another major development in the family rift that has continued since Jolie and Pitt separated in 2016. Jolie filed for divorce in September of that year, and the former couple finally finalized the proceedings in December 2024 after more than eight years of legal battles. They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Several of their children have already made similar decisions. Shiloh successfully petitioned a Los Angeles court in May 2024 to remove Pitt from her surname soon after turning 18. Maddox also filed legal paperwork in May requesting the same change, citing personal reasons.

Even before filing, he had already begun using “Maddox Jolie” professionally, including in the credits for the film Couture, where he worked as an assistant director while Jolie starred. Zahara also filed paperwork on June 9 asking to legally change her name from Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie.

Vivienne had already stopped publicly using Pitt’s surname before her latest filing. Back in May 2024, the Playbill for the Broadway production of The Outsiders, which she helped Jolie produce, credited her as “Vivienne Jolie.” Knox also appeared to move away from the Pitt surname.

As Page Six previously reported, he used the name “Knox Jolie” on his high school diploma after graduating from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles. A source said he celebrated the milestone alongside Jolie, siblings Pax and Zahara, and twin sister Vivienne.
