The closer ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ gets to its season 2 finale, the more like a long game of chess it seems that Marvel is playing. Episode 7 does not shout crossover or flashy cameo, but it does something that is, even, more interesting.
In a shot, outside City Hall, in the fallout of protests, on a strap, is scribbled the word Spider. That’s it. No theatrical zoom, no character response. And only a little, weirdly conscious detail that now has fans connecting dots.
Marvel Just Nudged Spider-Man Into Daredevil’s World Again

On the surface, one would assume that the moment is merely a set dressing. After all, the film was shot in a real-life setting, and not all the background was created on screen.
However, this is the thing: this was no ordinary scene. It was a carefully staged protest sequence, meaning every visible detail likely passed through multiple layers of review.

Had Marvel not desired that text about the Spider to be the subject of discussion, it would have been easy to delete it in a digital format.
The fact that it is still unchanged gives the indication of intent, or at least, awareness. And in a franchise that relies on interwoven storytelling, even the tiniest decisions are likely to have some weight.
The show has not been the first to push audiences towards the existence of Spider-Man. Vigilantes had already opened the door that Kingpin had mentioned earlier. This little visual signal is now making it a little broader.
Marvel’s Slow Burn Toward A Street-Level Crossover

To tell the truth, fans are not seeking hints any longer. They want a payoff. The foundation is already established: Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock has already encountered Tom Holland as Peter Parker on the big screen, and Fisk’s increasing power over New York almost necessitates a more significant reaction.

However, Marvel does not appear to be in a hurry to take Spider-Man to ‘Born Again’. And that could be the clever thing to do. They are keeping it to themselves, instead of burning it with a quick cameo.
Still, teases have a limit to which they can bear the weight. Such references will only be effective when they have a point to show.
Whether such a payoff will be in a subsequent Spider-Man movie or in a bigger MCU street-level event, the anticipation is obvious: Daredevil and Spider-Man must share the battlefield.
Since Kingpin is closing his grip on New York, one can hardly imagine that the most iconic hero of the city is simply sitting it out.
