How Doctor Doom’s Biggest Weapon In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Could Be The Heroes Themselves

In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, Earth’s mightiest heroes may find their biggest enemies aren’t necessarily the villains, but the allies they no longer share goals with. As Doctor Doom threatens the multiverse, it may be impossible to save everyone, and that may lead some of the strongest characters in the MCU to make questionable choices.

Doctor Doom could exploit these divisions to his advantage. Instead of beating the heroes down with brute force, he may offer something the heroes desperately need and force them to choose between what they want and saving countless universes.

One character that could be on Doom’s side is Doctor Strange. Strange has seen the danger of incursions and knows that saving the multiverse may mean making an unthinkable sacrifice. Strange may agree to work with Doom for a while if he believes that the only way to stop a worse disaster.

After all, when reality is at stake, Strange has never been afraid of making morally questionable decisions. Scarlet Witch might be tempted in a different way. One of Wanda’s most powerful motivations is to be reunited with her children. Doom might use that need in ‘Doomsday’ to give her the opportunity to locate Billy and Tommy.

Wanda may not be aware of the price she will have to pay for accepting his assistance. Moreover, if Steve Rogers’ family ends up in the middle of the multiversal war, he may be facing this impossible dilemma as well.

His history has shown that protecting the people he loves can outweigh following orders. If Doom threatens his family, Steve might risk his relationship with the Avengers to keep them safe.

Namor and Magneto might be an even bigger issue since their allegiance is not just to themselves. In stories where humanity is an existential threat to his people, mutant survival has always been a major priority of Magneto’s. If Doom can provide mutants with protection in return for cooperation, Magneto may be tempted to accept, even if it means that he will lose another reality.

Namor could make a similar calculation. His first duty is to protect his kingdom under the sea, as the ruler of Talokan. Namor may feel that saving his own people is more important than saving Talokan if Doom offers him the promise of its survival with threats to other worlds.

The possible betrayals could give ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ something more compelling than another battle between good and evil. When every choice comes with a devastating cost, even the heroes might disagree about what deserves to be saved.
