Jeremy Renner is well-known in the industry for playing different roles in several movies and TV shows. But out of all, he is the most credited for his portrayal of Clint Barton in Marvel projects. Although Renner’s Hawkeye is popular among the Avengers, the producers did him dirty.
While Hawkeye’s teammates possessed armor or were injected with serum, all he had was a bow and arrow. How can Clint Barton fit in a place of superpowers with an age-old weapon? Well, these were Renner’s concerns.

Jeremy Renner Was Disappointed With His Role In MCU
During a Q&A session at London Film and Comic-con, Jeremy Renner shared his resentment of playing Hawkeye and believed that his only role was being Loki’s minion. Renner said, “I never really told anybody this. But in the first Avengers… I was just getting to know who Hawkeye was, and then zap, I go round like a zombie, I’m like Loki’s minion. And I’m still not even sure who Hawkeye was at that point. So I’m a little frustrated, because I was so excited to figure out who Hawkeye was.”
In an interview with Collider, Renner revealed that he was often confused while playing Hawkeye in ‘The Avengers’. He also added that it was a challenge for Joss Whedon, the director as well. Renner said, “I don’t know how you put that many characters in a movie like that. It’s immense. But, with that, you pass the baton. You get to work with very few of them ’cause everybody’s got their own thing going on. Someone’s in the air, flying around. I’m on the ground, shooting a bow and arrow.”

Why Jeremy Renner Didn’t Quit Playing Hawkeye?
Although Jeremy Renner was annoyed and disappointed playing the role, he instantly changed his decision and continued to be a part of the franchise. The ‘Avengers’ was a massive success worldwide with a whopping $1.5 billion at the box office.
Renner wanted to kick the bucket for Hawkeye while shooting ‘The Avengers’, but he decided to change his decision after looking at the immense success of the first film. He said, “I don’t really want him to die now. I really got to explore him a lot, and I can’t wait to explore him more, and there’s some really cool ideas coming up. Really cool ideas. Great deaths!
