‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘ is set after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ when Captain America passed down his mantle to Sam Wilson played by Anthony Mackie. The series was a part of Phase Four featuring Wilson and Bucky Barnes mobilizing the events after the blip.
The Marvel miniseries premiered on March 19, 2021, for six episodes that ended on April 23. Despite the limited episodes, the series received several accolades including five Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Despite the positive reviews, the series was not renewed for a second season, leaving Anthony Mackie disappointed.
Anthony Mackie Expected A Season Two For ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’
While promoting a new action comedy film ‘Twisted Metal’, Anthony Mackie shared his disappointment with Marvel. The actor previously shared in an exclusive interview with RadioTime.com that he was bummed out when ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘ did not get a second season.
Anthony Mackie said, “The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out.” Mackie also revealed how much he misses working with his co-stars. The actor said, “Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness.”

Why Did ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ End After Only A Season?
‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ left a couple of loose threads, that the fans hoped would be tied in season two. However, the Marvel boss revealed that the second season might be a green light, but not according to Anthony Mackie. However, the miniseries will get a season two, but not in a traditional form.
Instead, the miniseries will continue through the upcoming MCU film, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Thunderbolts’. The former film will explore Sam Wilson’s first mission as Captain America and the Thunderbolts will follow Bucky’s recovery journey and the redemption of John Walker. Anthony Mackie said, “When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.” In this way maybe there is a chance that Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan can take a lead on their character individually.
