There, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, stands the unstoppable Juggernaut! Decked out in his trademark crimson armor, the massive mutant charges towards our heroes. This unexpected appearance has sent the internet into a frenzy. Here’s the kicker, Vinnie Jones, the actor who portrayed Juggernaut in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand, adamantly denied involvement in the film just a few months ago.

Loved the Deadpool films,” Jones said during a press tour for his TV series,The Gentlemen.’ “Funnily enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically.” Jones’ comments seemed to put the end to any Juggernaut rumors. So, what gives?

There are a couple of possibilities here. The studio might be employing some clever misdirection. Vinnie might have followed in Andrew Garfield’s footsteps. Andrew straight up denied being a part of Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Perhaps Jones was simply throwing fans off the scent.

There’s also the chance that it’s not Jones at all under the helmet. The trailer offers a brief glimpse, and the CGI on the Juggernaut model might be obscuring a different actor’s features. We’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from the studio or Jones himself to know for sure.

Regardless of who’s playing him, Juggernaut’s presence in the trailer raises some interesting questions about the plot of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In the comics, Juggernaut is a formidable foe for both heroes, so it’s safe to assume he’ll be a major antagonist in the film.

This raises another question, will Deadpool and Wolverine be forced to work together to take him down? Their famously volatile relationship is a big part of the film’s appeal, and the prospect of them begrudgingly teaming up against a common enemy is pure cinematic gold.
