“That’s A Long-lived Tradition”: Kevin Feige Confirms Marvel Has Been Chasing Adam Driver For Years

Adam Driver has been one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors for a long time, and it turns out Marvel Studios has been trying just as hard as fans hoped. Despite years of conversations about potential MCU roles, the Oscar-nominated actor has yet to join the superhero franchise.

According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, that isn’t because the studio stopped asking; it simply became a recurring tradition that never quite worked out.

In an amusing behind-the-scenes look at Marvel’s many attempts to recruit Driver, Feige gave fans a look into one of the MCU’s biggest “what ifs. Feige told Happy Sad Confused that over the years, Marvel has talked to Adam Driver about “many, many, many” characters.

However, each time the same thing has happened, the actor politely turned down the roles. Instead of being frustrated, Feige joked about it and said it’s a tradition that they keep doing over Zoom, talking about a role, and then they get back to their respective homes.

“It’s no secret we’d like to get Driver for a project,” Feige added. “But it’s a tradition to Zoom with him, and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition.” The Marvel chief also confirmed that there is respect between them. He said the actor has always been honest about his interest level and has been courteous and straightforward in all his discussions.

It’s not surprising that Driver has made the same choices over and over, given his knack for picking projects. Since finishing his run as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, he has largely focused on filmmaker-driven dramas and prestige films instead of committing to another long-running blockbuster franchise.

Could Marvel Still Be In Adam Driver’s Future?

Even after several unsuccessful attempts, Feige’s comments suggest Marvel hasn’t closed the door on working with Driver. The studio is even more eager to find the right opportunity should the actor ever change his mind.
