Marvel Studios might be planning to add three characters to the new Thunderbolts that could make the team sound much like the comic-book versions. A new report (via thecosmiccircus) says that Marvel has been considering including Bullseye, Abomination and Melissa Gold, aka Songbird.
Still, the potential additions make a surprising amount of sense.
Songbird Can Bring The Comics’ Redemption Story And Bullseye The Chaos
The original Thunderbolts were created as a team of villains pretending to be heroes. Baron Zemo recruited former Masters of Evil members Melissa Gold (now Songbird) and turned them into a seemingly heroic super-team.

Eventually, they were all exposed as liars, but some of them truly took on their new roles of heroes. This is what makes Songbird so awesome for the MCU. If it turns out that Melissa Gold has been living in plain sight, her debut into the Thunderbolts might be one of the best comic book parallels in the franchise.
Bullseye would be a particularly interesting addition as the character has already had a complex history with the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics. Bullseye was added to the roster when Norman Osborn’s government sanctioned the Thunderbolts era with Songbird, Moonstone, Venom, and more.
That gives Marvel a chance to recreate one of the most dysfunctional dynamics in the comics, without just copying the storyline.
Abomination Could Turn The Team Into A Walking Disaster
Abomination also has Thunderbolts history. Marvel’s own comics overview notes that Emil Blonsky has been among the many villains to serve on different incarnations of the team. In all honesty, the MCU team would sound like a whole new ball game if Abomination was paired with Bullseye and Songbird.

It’s already been proven that the Thunderbolts work because their personalities clash, with Yelena, Bucky, John Walker, Ghost, and Red Guardian already proving it. A new assassin, a divided superhuman, and a maybe-reformed Songbird might further drive that wedge.
The most intriguing one, however, is Melissa Gold. Songbird isn’t just another character that Marvel can throw in the ring. She’s the embodiment of what the Thunderbolts are all about: a group of people with terrible histories who become heroes.
Marvel’s comics say Gold was one of the most significant recurring members of the team, even eventually becoming its leader. If Marvel takes that route, the next Thunderbolts team may finally be able to embrace the weird, messy redemption story that made the original comics so memorable.
