Marvel is not merely creating hype around ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, but it is quietly prepping a smaller, yet possibly more important, release. ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ is coming to Disney+ in a few weeks, and it may be more significant than it may seem.
Paperwise, it is a one-off special about Frank Castle. But Marvel might be laying the groundwork before one of its largest 2026 movies is released in theaters.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ May Hold the Missing Piece Before ‘Brand New Day’

The fact that Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher is already weighty. His take on Frank Castle has always inhabited a more down-to-earth, grounded part of the MCU, well out of the multiversal mayhem and cosmic dangers of recent endeavors. This is what makes this special and interesting.

It does not appear to be attempting to get bigger, it is remaining focused, personal, and brutal. However, that more grounded tone might be just what ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ requires. The world of Peter Parker has been getting more and more complicated and the introduction of someone like the Punisher brings a very different form of tension.
He is not a hero in the classic sense, and placing him with Spider-Man instantly elevates the stakes in a more uncomfortable manner. This special will hopefully close the gaps since we last saw Frank, and where he has been and what he has become. And when Marvel does this right, it will not feel like backstory, it will be like a warning for what is to come next.
The Punisher’s Next Chapter Sets the Stage for Spider-Man’s Future

Balance is one of the greatest challenges that ‘Brand New Day’ has to deal with. It’s juggling multiple characters, tones, and expectations. The addition of the Punisher might seem like a daring expansion or a collision that does not quite fit. This is where ‘One Last Kill’ comes in.

By giving Frank Castle his own spotlight first, Marvel has the chance to smooth that transition. It can make subtle changes to the character, making him feel more at home in a PG-13 blockbuster without entirely losing what makes him interesting. It is also possible that this seeds the film with a bigger story about the plant.
The relationship does not necessarily need to be evident, whether it is through criminal networks, common enemies, or simple thematic overlap. And, frankly, that is what makes this release thrilling. It is not filler content; it is purposeful.
