Marvel And DC Origins
Let’s start with DC which is often hailed as ‘The king’ of comics. DC abbreviated from Detective Comics, was an iteration of the company, National Ally Publications that was founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Doctor Occult came into existence that year. He is still a part of the DC universe. DC’s two most indisputable superheroes are Superman and Batman. They made their debut appearance in 1938 and 1939, respectively.
In 1939 Marvel also appeared in the scene. Marvel was started by pulp fiction publisher, Martin Goodman, and it was first called Timely publications. In 1941, Captain America, Marvel’s most enduring hero came to life. Some of DC’s main characters are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash. Marvel’s band of superfamous superheroes includes Spiderman, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Ironman, etc.
The universe of Marvel and DC operates on a kind of inverse logic. DC’s characters are more God-like but in the guise of humans, whereas Marvel characters are more human and given God-like superpowers. Now, let’s move to business and how the two rate in terms of success.
