Marvel’s next big story may be more epic than just a clash between the X-Men and a formidable mutant. If Apocalypse is ever a part of the Mutant Saga, there’s an intriguing possibility that his story may tie into something far more cosmic: Knull, the terrifying god of the symbiotes.
It seems utterly bizarre at first, but Marvel has already made ties between these characters with the Celestials.
MCU May Have A Wild Plan for Apocalypse Beyond The X-Men
In the comic, Knull is an ancient foe of the Celestials, who fought them long before the days of human influence in the universe. Apocalypse, on the other hand, has a history with the Celestials. The ancient mutant’s transformation and development were greatly aided by the technology of the Celestials.

He was much more than just a powerful mutant with a survivalist mentality. That opens up an interesting possibility for the MCU. What if Apocalypse isn’t just being introduced to satisfy Marvel’s desire for the greatest villains of the X-Men? What if his life is connected to a conflict that goes back to the dawn of time on Earth?
If the Celestials find out Knull is back and that normal cosmic forces are not sufficient to halt him. Their solution could be Apocalypse. Instead of being a mutant tyrant who wants to test humans, Marvel could make Apocalypse an ancient weapon designed or empowered for a much bigger purpose.
His fascination with evolution and survival would suddenly have a new layer. He could believe that his brutal philosophy is necessary because he was designed to prepare life for threats far beyond Earth. That would also help the MCU tie the mutant and cosmic threads of Marvel together without making either one or the other feel like a completely different story.
The X-Men Could Get Trapped In An Ancient Cosmic War
The most promising aspect of this theory is the idea that the X-Men wouldn’t be the only ones to be Apocalypse’s target. If Knull becomes a threat to the world, Apocalypse might end up on the same side as the heroes. At first, the X-Men may think of him as their enemy, only to discover that his war against Knull is connected to something unimaginably old.

That might make for an awesome conclusion to the battle. Rather than the Mutant Saga being another straightforward battle between good and evil, Marvel could have developed Apocalypse and Knull as two ancient forces fighting against each other. One seeks to survive through evolution, and one seeks to dominate through darkness.
Whether Marvel actually takes this route remains speculation, but it would give the Mutant Saga an enormous sense of scale. The X-Men could start their story on Earth, where mutants are struggling to be accepted, and end up in the middle of a conflict between two beings that started way before humanity.
