Marvel Studios has always been known for its attention to detail, and a little moment in ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 has led to a new theory. It’s not a blatant cameo or post-credits moment. Instead, it’s a musical reference that makes viewers wonder if the animated series is preparing the ground for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
So far, there is nothing official. However, the relationship has prompted fans to pay closer attention to the possibilities of Marvel’s animated and live-action universes being even more connected.
A Familiar MCU Theme Has Fans Connecting The Dots

In the first few episodes of ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2, Cable accepts his fate to save the timeline and lead the X-Men to fight a perilous battle against Apocalypse. In those emotional moments, viewers heard “Purpose Is Glorious,” the memorable score that was used for Loki’s transformation into the guardian of the multiverse in Season 2.

The selection of music was an instant hit with fans. It could just be a nifty Easter egg. However, many think that Marvel doesn’t make these creative decisions for no reason.
Some fans believe that the theme is a sign of a greater connection between Cable’s mission and Loki’s work to preserve the multiverse, given that they are both set to make a cameo in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. It’s the kind of subtle storytelling that Marvel is known for, and it’s also a way to get older projects to be revisited with new eyes.
Could Marvel Be Preparing Fans For Its Next X-Men?

The theory is even more compelling when you take into account the fact that several of the original X-Men actors are making a comeback in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. This includes Cyclops, Professor X, Magneto, Beast, and Nightcrawler. However, they now have comic-themed costumes and are not necessarily the same characters from Fox’s original X-Men movies.

So, some believe that Marvel is borrowing from the characters, graphics, and attitude of ‘X-Men ’97’. If true, it would give the studio the chance to pay tribute to the popular actors and show off a roster that’s more familiar to the comics and animated series than the confusing continuity of the Fox universe.
It would also help ease Marvel’s way into introducing the MCU’s X-Men following the Multiverse Saga. This is just a fan theory, however, and Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed that there is any direct link between ‘X-Men ’97’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Despite all this, the similarities are mounting: from colorful costumes to multiversal themes to now a shared musical cue. Fans are convinced the animated series could be much more significant to the MCU’s future than originally thought.
