The Russo Brothers may have accidentally revealed what makes ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ different from every previous MCU event movie. They were asked whether the film’s ending could deliver the same kind of shock as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, but instead of comparing the two directly, they described the finale as “very surprising.” That choice of words is interesting.
The Russos Are Keeping The Ending Completely Hidden

The Russos know exactly what audiences expect from them. ‘Infinity War’ ended with Thanos winning, while ‘Endgame’ delivered an emotional conclusion to years of storytelling. With ‘Doomsday’, they appear to be deliberately avoiding another predictable formula.

The directors compared the experience to Christmas morning, describing the movie like a present that audiences will desperately want to shake before opening. That is a pretty revealing comparison for a Marvel movie this large.
The MCU has become increasingly difficult to keep secret because trailers, merchandise, and leaks often reveal major plot points before release. ‘Doomsday’ appears to be taking the opposite approach, with the Russos carefully refusing to explain what audiences should expect from the final moments.
And if the ending really is as unexpected as they suggest, the surprise may not simply involve a character death. It could completely change the situation heading into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
Doctor Doom Could Be The Reason The Movie Feels Different

The other major clue is the tone. The Russos described ‘Doomsday’ as “intense” and said it feels different from previous Marvel movies. They also singled out Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, suggesting that his presence brings a level of gravitas and energy that can be frightening.

That is particularly important because Doom isn’t just another villain who wants to destroy the heroes. In Marvel’s comics, he is often portrayed as someone who genuinely believes that only he can save reality, making his relationship with the heroes far more complicated.
That kind of character could change the entire atmosphere of an Avengers movie. So perhaps the biggest mystery isn’t whether ‘Doomsday’ will have another ‘Infinity War’-style ending. It is what happens when the Russos deliberately stop playing by the rules established by their previous Avengers movies.
