The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its interconnected storytelling. However, sometimes, that also leads to projects getting delayed or overshadowed by bigger priorities.
One such case is of ‘Shang-Chi 2’, a sequel that was confirmed in late 2021 but has seen little movement since. Simu Liu, who brought the hero to life in ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, remains optimistic.
“Nothing But Excitement”: Simu Liu On Shang-Chi’s Future

Despite the delays, Simu Liu insists that the sequel is happening, even if no one quite knows when. The director of ‘Shang-Chi’, Destin Daniel Cretton, is currently committed to ‘Spider-Man 4’, set to begin filming later this year. However, according to Liu, that hasn’t changed their enthusiasm for making ‘Shang-Chi 2’ a reality.

Liu, while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, dodged speculation about Shang-Chi potentially appearing in ‘Spider-Man 4‘. “I love people who love those movies. And I also love those movies. And I’m going to be first in line,” he jokingly stated.
While this response didn’t confirm or deny anything, in a separate conversation with Screen Rant, Liu spoke more seriously about ‘Shang-Chi 2’ and his continued communication with Cretton. Despite Cretton taking on ‘Spider-Man 4’, Liu emphasized that both of them are eager to make the sequel happen.
“I don’t think anything’s been impacted. I speak to Destin often and there’s nothing coming out of both of us but excitement to make this film,” Liu stated. This reassurance is good news for fans who have been waiting for a sequel to one of the MCU’s most beloved recent films.
Will Shang-Chi Return To MCU Before The Sequel?

With ‘Spider-Man 4’ set to take up much of Daniel Destin Cretton’s schedule, it remains unclear when ‘Shang-Chi 2’ will enter production. However, given the success of the first film, outright cancellation seems unlikely. In the meantime, there’s speculation that Shang-Chi could make his return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘.

Originally, Shang-Chi was expected to have a significant role in ‘The Kang Dynasty’. However, with that film no longer in development, it’s unclear how his character fits into the larger MCU. Another lingering question is whether Shang-Chi’s story will continue to explore the Ten Rings organization.
The first film’s post-credits scene teased that the mystical rings were sending a signal to an unknown force. Additionally, a Ten Rings Disney+ series was once rumored to be in development. However, just like the sequel, there have been no official updates on that front.
