For years, Marvel fans have been asking themselves if Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk would even get the solo film he deserves. Bruce Banner has been a staple in the MCU with ensemble films, but a solo film has never been on Marvel’s radar.
Now, the director of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, Destin Daniel Cretton, has given the best sign yet that the dream could still live on.
Destin Daniel Cretton Gives Hope For Mark Ruffalo’s Solo Hulk Film
Talking about Ruffalo’s future as the Green Goliath, Cretton said the actor has been developing concepts for an independent Hulk project. “Mark has a few pitches. They are pretty good,” the filmmaker shared.

Ruffalo has been playing Bruce Banner for more than a decade, but unlike most of his fellow Avengers, he has never starred in an MCU solo movie. The actor has made it clear over the years that he is interested in telling more of Banner’s story, especially the times between his major transformations that have never been seen on screen.
Not all of his remarks have been positive. Ruffalo had previously stated in 2017 that it was improbable that a Hulk standalone film would be made due to the distribution rights that Universal Pictures holds with the character.
However, his outlook gradually changed, with the actor later admitting he’d love to tell more of Hulk’s story if the opportunity presented itself. Despite the years of uncertainty, it appears Ruffalo hasn’t forgotten about those possibilities.
A Solo Hulk Film Isn’t Completely Out Of The Picture
The timing of Cretton’s comments is especially notable, with Ruffalo returning as Hulk in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The film is his first since ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Cretton has also praised the chemistry between Ruffalo and Tom Holland, teasing that the two characters were “explosive” and “emotional” together.

Based on Marvel Comics, their live-action battle has been long awaited and is one of the film’s most popular topics. It’s unclear if Ruffalo will ever have the chance to implement his solo Hulk concepts, especially with the character’s complicated rights situation.
However, Cretton’s openness about those pitches indicates the discussion is still going on in private. For fans who have waited years to see Hulk lead his own MCU story, that may be the most encouraging update yet.
