When the news of ‘Practical Magic 2‘ came in, we all thought we would see the old cast reunite again. But while we were delighted to see Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock back on screen, there was no hope of seeing Evan Rachel Wood return.

Now, Evan Rachel Wood has herself spoken up about the reason behind not returning to the much-needed sequel. She has explained why it mattered so much to her and why she still holds nothing but love for the franchise.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Evan Rachel Wood opened up that the story of ‘Practical Magic 2‘ is taking a different direction than the original story from the book.

She expressed, “We were so bummed when we heard the news about Practical Magic 2. And I’m so glad that you spoke out about it. Why was that so important for you? I read the book, and it seems like they’re not following the book. In the book, it would have made sense to bring me back. I think in the way that they’re redoing it and approaching it, it didn’t make sense.”

She made it clear that she understands why the filmmakers chose a different path. Even though she believes her character could have fit into the story based on the novel, she accepts that the sequel is telling a different version of the story.

Missing A Reunion With The Original Cast Still Hurts

Although Wood respects the creative direction of the sequel, she admitted that missing the reunion with her original castmates has been difficult on a personal level. Looking back on her childhood experience, she said the cast built a special bond that has lasted for years.

It is sad because, you know, we bonded with that cast so much as children. And so to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes is something that can’t be faked. And so I’m sad that that doesn’t get to exist, especially for the fans.”

Wood added that the emotional connection between the original cast is something no recreation could replace. Seeing everyone reunite years later would have carried a real sense of history that audiences could have felt on screen.

Despite her disappointment, Wood made it clear that she has no hard feelings toward the people making the sequel. Instead, she offered her support to everyone involved, including Joey, who has taken part in the new film.
