Marvel fans might not have heard the good news about a ‘Shang-Chi’ sequel at San Diego Comic-Con, but Simu Liu has made it clear that he hasn’t given up on it. The actor who brought Shang-Chi to the MCU in 2021 recently spoke about the long wait and reiterated his excitement to return when Marvel Studios is ready.
The sequel was not included in Marvel’s recent list of announcements. However, Liu thanked the faithful fans for their support and is ready to return to the role when the time comes.
Why Simu Liu Isn’t Giving Up On ‘Shang-Chi 2’
During the San Diego Comic-Con, Liu expressed gratitude to fans for having campaigned for ‘Shang-Chi 2’ for almost five years since its 2017 release. “People still come up to me and tell me how much they appreciate it. I can’t wait to do more,” Liu told SR.

He claimed that he would “crawl through broken glass” if that’s what it took to make the sequel happen. Liu also made it clear that the project’s future is not entirely up to him, as many of the decisions are out of his hands.
His comments come in the wake of recent comments from director Destin Daniel Cretton, who confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is currently being developed. The two changes indicate that the sequel is still in the works. It just hasn’t been officially announced or given a release date.
Shang-Chi’s Story Is Far From Over
Despite the lack of a direct sequel in the near future, ‘Shang-Chi’ will be a key figure in the MCU’s future. Liu will return as the character in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and promotional footage has already shown a fight scene with Channing Tatum’s Gambit.

Looking back at his time off, Liu said he feels Shang-Chi has continued to develop since his last appearance in the movies. Instead of just sitting around, he thinks that the hero has been training, saving lives, and is even stronger than before.
“We don’t necessarily know what he’s been up to, but presumably he hasn’t just been sitting around. He’s been training. He’s been maybe saving the day off in different places. But he’s ready.” The continued wait for Shang-Chi 2 remains surprising given the success of the original film.
At this time, Marvel Studios has not announced when Shang-Chi will be the star of his own story again. However, with Liu’s excitement and Cretton’s confirmation that the sequel is in the works, there’s no reason to think that the Master of the Ten Rings has stopped his run with the MCU.
