‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Theory Might’ve Confirmed Hulk’s Darkest MCU Turn Yet

In Short
  • Leaked merchandise hints at a more volatile version of Hulk in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day.'
  • The character may revert to his traditional, destructive form, increasing tension in the MCU.
  • Spider-Man may seek Bruce Banner's help, creating a dynamic between two unstable heroes.

The Marvel rumor machine is whirling once more, and this time it is hauling the Hulk back into the limelight in a big and possibly dangerous way.

The new leaked merchandise related to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is already buzzing, not only due to the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo, but also because the version of Hulk being teased is not the same calm and controlled character that audiences have become accustomed to. Rather, what is being teased is leading to something much more volatile. And, frankly, it is time.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ May Bring Back Hulk’s Most Dangerous Form

The leaked designs feature a far angrier, more traditional Hulk, more akin to the raw destructive power that characterized the character in earlier stories. Gone is the calm, collected, Hulk-Smart power; in its place is something unpredictable, something that seems to be on the verge of going out of control at any given time. If this trend is true, it is a significant change to the MCU.

Hulk has not really felt unsafe in years. The reintroduction of that feeling of danger does not only make the character more interesting, it also increases the stakes of everyone surrounding him, including Spider-Man. There is also an increasing feeling that it is not all about nostalgia.

A more ferocious Hulk would be able to be directly connected to the bigger story of the film, particularly when Bruce Banner is losing control. It is that internal struggle in which the character has always been at his finest, disheveled, emotional, and somewhat frightening.

How Hulk Fits Into Spider-Man’s Story

The more interesting aspect of this rumor is its relation to Peter’s arc. There are early indications that Spider-Man seeks the assistance of Banner when his own abilities start acting out. That in itself creates a strong dynamic. It’s one unstable hero seeking the advice of another who might be even less in control.

If Banner is experimenting with his condition, possibly using his own blood to regulate the Hulk, it opens the door for things to go very wrong. And in a story like this, they are likely to. Sadie Sink and her mysterious role are also the subject of speculation, with some fans theorizing that she might be the catalyst behind Hulk’s transformation.

Whether it proves to be so or not, it creates another dimension of uncertainty for a movie that already appears to be full of moving parts. Naturally, all this is not officially verified. Merchandise leaks and fan theories do not necessarily directly translate to the final story. However, they do tell us something equally significant: the direction Marvel might be leaning toward.
