Marvel Comics’ most famous battle, Avengers vs. X-Men, may already be setting up in the MCU. While ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is expected to bring heroes and mutants into the same story, the more interesting possibility is what happens after the Multiverse Saga ends.
Spider-Man could be at the heart of that future conflict.
Peter Parker’s Biggest Mistake Could Come Back to Haunt Him
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ may have something even more complex for Peter Parker to deal with. Though his invention of technology that can neutralize superhuman powers may have been well-intentioned, it is clear that doing the right thing doesn’t always work out for Peter.

That could make him an unlikely figurehead in a future conflict between mutant and non-mutant heroes. The inhibitor technology is especially problematic since it’s employed by the Department of Damage Control against Jean Grey.
It wasn’t Peter’s intention to control the mutants, but from the X-Men’s point of view, it doesn’t matter. Imagine discovering that one of the MCU’s most trusted heroes developed the technology being used to restrain and experiment on mutants.
Though Peter may not have been directly responsible for the abuse itself, it would be very hard for the X-Men to look the other way. The X-Men, meanwhile, could see the technology as evidence that humans and their allies are getting more and more used to controlling mutants. Both sides could be wrong, but not entirely.
Jean Grey May Be The Solution To Ending the War
This is an intriguing potential story because of Peter’s relationship with Jean Grey. The two characters are not enemies at the end of ‘Brand New Day’, but rather save each other’s lives and form a true bond. If the Avengers and X-Men ever come to blows, that relationship may prove to be very useful.

Jean could understand why Peter created the technology, while also recognizing why her fellow mutants would be furious about how it was used. Peter, meanwhile, could become the person trying to prove that the Avengers and X-Men do not have to become enemies.
That’s a very human means of dealing with a massive superhero fight. Rather than just another Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man showdown, the MCU could have Spider-Man as the unfortunate middle man and maybe the only one who can unite them.
