Marvel’s next Avengers movies are supposed to feel like one massive story, but reports suggest the studio may be taking a more cautious approach to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Instead of going straight into production, the studio is reportedly taking time to see how audiences react to ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ before moving forward.
If ‘Doomsday’ works, Marvel can build on what audiences love. If it doesn’t, ‘Secret Wars’ could become the opportunity to correct the course.
‘Doomsday’s Problems Could Affect Everything After It

Reports indicate that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has had a much more involved post-production than Marvel originally thought. The film was reportedly shot without a finalized script, and the initial plan to reshoot for a few days has reportedly grown to over two months of reshoots.
The third act is rumored to be the biggest problem. Even the Russo Brothers are said not to have the final cut yet, suggesting Marvel is still trying to determine exactly what the finished movie should look like.
This is quite a big coup for a film of this magnitude. ‘Doomsday’ is more than just another MCU film. It’s the first half of a story that directly connects to ‘Secret Wars’, so the decisions made in it can have a significant impact on the other. That’s probably why Marvel would prefer to wait rather than gamble.
‘Secret Wars’ May Become Marvel’s Safety Net

According to reports, ‘Secret Wars’ doesn’t have a fully wrapped-up script either, as a huge writing team is still at work on the story. That allows for some flexibility, but it doesn’t mean that Marvel is not yet committed to all of the creative choices.

Waiting until January would give Feige something extremely valuable: audience reaction. If ‘Doomsday’ becomes the massive comeback Marvel wants, ‘Secret Wars’ can continue confidently in that direction.
But no one wants to wait for years for a movie to be put together at the last minute, and ‘Secret Wars’ is no exception. Marvel has already experienced the consequences of rushing when it comes to a big crossover. If delaying ‘Secret Wars’ allows Feige to actually listen to audiences and fix problems before production begins, waiting could ultimately be the smarter move.
