Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ viewing list for X-Men has been the subject of much discussion, as one film is missing from the list that stands out more than others: ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.
It’s a strange omission for longtime X-Men fans, who have been waiting for one of the franchise’s most significant movies. The reason may have less to do with what audiences need to understand and more to do with what Marvel doesn’t want them thinking about before the movie begins.
‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Changed Everything

‘Days of Future Past’ is more than just an X-Men story. It actually changes history. Wolverine travels back to the 1970s, changes the course of history, and prevents the bleak future dominated by Sentinels from ever fully coming to pass. This means that all of the characters that have returned are in a reality that has been changed.

Now take a look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. With Doctor Doom talking about the heroes living “stolen lives” and the return of the old X-Men characters, there are naturally questions about timelines and realities. Add in Sentinel imagery that reminds many fans of ‘Days of Future Past’, and the omission starts to feel even more interesting.
Marvel Might Be Protecting A “Surprise”

Again, this is all speculation from fans. Marvel hasn’t said that ‘Days of Future Past’ directly connects to ‘Doomsday’. However, if the new X-Men history is going to be significant, then seeing the movie first could lead viewers down the correct path. And that’s where the theory becomes fun.

Marvel may want viewers to recognize Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Cyclops, and the rest of the returning cast first, then slowly realize that their world has a complicated history. Instead of explaining the timeline before the movie, the studio could be saving that revelation for the story itself.
Regardless of whether or not this theory is correct, it is unarguable that ‘Days of Future Past’ is one of the most important X-Men films ever. It’s weird not to add the film to a watchlist that has the X-Men in it. So, fans are wondering if Marvel is holding onto something much bigger than they’re aware of.
