Tom Holland has been playing Spider-Man in the MCU for almost 10 years, and now he appears to be looking beyond Peter Parker. And this might be the best indication yet that Marvel is slowly getting ready for a much larger future for the Spider-Man franchise.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Could Begin A Whole New Marvel Legacy Story

When Holland spoke with Empire recently, he was open about what’s next for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, and his words were surprisingly introspective. Rather than discussing the number of more solo films he’d like to make or the length of time he’ll remain in the role, the actor talked about the next generation of Spider-heroes.

For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that. I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” he shared.

This comparison seems relevant. Holland seems eager to one day do the same as Downey did. He wants to mentor an entire generation of Marvel heroes through Iron Man. It’s not the retirement announcement. However, it is definitely an evolutionary process, though.

What is interesting about Holland’s comments is the timing. After the emotional conclusion of ‘No Way Home’, it’s obvious that ‘Brand New Day’ is a fresh start for Peter. That arrangement, of course, leaves plenty of room for expansion.

Unlike the young, green Spider-Man he first encountered in Civil War, Holland’s Peter appears to be on the path to becoming a more grown-up superhero who might one day lead the younger generations into the MCU. And Marvel has a greater faith in Holland’s creativity than ever before.

The actor shared that he was very engaged in developing Brand New Day, even pitching ideas straight to the studio. One of his ideas, jokingly dubbed “Spider-Puberty,” involved Peter losing control of his growing powers. Although the title was rejected right away, the concept did shape the direction of the film.

Fans have been waiting for Miles Morales to be seen in live-action for years, and it seems the character might be materialising. Miles Morales has been a long time coming, and it looks like the character is finally getting some action.

Sony has been holding back for the most part as the animated Spider-Verse trilogy is still in the process of wrapping up, but that is beginning to change. Holland’s recent remarks seem to be setting the stage for that transition.

The upside is Marvel doesn’t have to hire someone to replace Peter Parker to bring Miles in. The comics have shown that both characters are best suited together, many times over.

Peter is experienced and emotionally powerful, and Miles is fresh and has a new perspective. After 10 years in the suit, Holland could be in the right place at the right time in Spider-Man’s evolution to make that dynamic work on screen.
