Why Is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3′ An Animal Rights Masterpiece?
PETA released a statement on their official website awarding James Gunn an award, recognizing his unflinching advocacy in the film that related to the viewers that all animals deserve a life of freedom under the open sky rather than confinement to a laboratory. The film revealed the backstory of Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, who was modified by High Efficiency in the lab. The experiment conducted on him and the loss of his ‘family’ tormented him for years.
Lisa Lange, the Senior Vice President of PETA said, “Through Rocket, James Gunn has put a face, a name, and a personality on the millions of vulnerable animals being cycled through laboratories as we speak. PETA is celebrating this as the best animal rights film of the year for helping audiences see animals as individuals and suggesting that just because we can experiment on them doesn’t mean that we should.”

How Did The Film Expose Animal Testing?
PETA went ahead to outline the various scenes which exposed animal testing in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’. It began with High Evolutionary giving ID numbers like 89P13 instead of names and cruelly treating them, stealing away the animal’s freedom. The film very emotionally and beautifully shares the pain of animals being tested and exposed the audience to the harsh treatment they receive.
The outline covered, “Their ID numbers are typically tattooed on their chests, like both Lylla’s and Rocket’s, or inside their ears. While both Rocket and Floor and both Lylla and Teefs are housed together in the movie, that’s often not the case in the real world. Workers keep many species of animals in small, separate cages. But like in the film, cages are small and the animals have little or no enrichment.”
It also added, “As a baby, Rocket is shown strapped into a restraining device while The High Evolutionary and OrgoCorp scientists experiment on him. The device in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is eerily similar to real-life ones that experimenters use to restrain primates in laboratories.”
