Woody Allen to date remains a polarizing figure in the filmmaking industry. Allen is primarily known as a filmmaker, writer, actor, and comedian. He’s acclaimed for his prolific career spanning several decades, known for films like ‘Annie Hall,’ ‘Manhattan,’ and ‘Midnight in Paris.’
However, he has also been a controversial figure due to personal scandals and allegations. Additionally, in a recent interview with Airmail Allen revealed his feelings towards modern-day filmmaking progress and how it has changed.
He compared the distribution of films nowadays with the past. “It doesn’t matter to me whether I get distributed here or not,” Allen said. “Once I make it, I don’t follow it anymore. Distribution is no longer what it was. Now distribution is two weeks in a cinema… And then that’s it. I mean, Annie Hall played in movie houses in New York for a little bit over a year.“
Allen further talked about the ‘appeal’ of filmmaking going away. “It’d be in one theater for six, seven months, and then somebody would pick it up and it would hang around another few months. The whole business has changed, and not in an appealing way. All the romance of filmmaking is gone,” he added.

Woody Allen’s popularity has been on a decline ever since the MeToo movement. The most notable allegation against Woody Allen is that he sexually abused his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. These allegations surfaced during Allen’s highly publicized split from actress Mia Farrow, Dylan’s mother, in the early 1990s.
Dylan Farrow has consistently maintained that Allen sexually abused her when she was a child. However, Allen has denied the allegations, and the case has been the subject of intense media scrutiny and controversy for many years.
