Director Cameron Dishes On ‘Avatar’ Sequels
Generally, sequels of novels or big-budget films take a lot of time as well as investment. A series like ‘Lord of The Rings‘ was built over two decades. Thinking of this huge time gap, Cameron pushed for his films as a “bigger story”.
He explained, “What I said to the Fox regime at the time was, ‘I’ll do it, but we’ve got to play a larger game here. I don’t want to just do a movie and do a movie and do a movie. I want to tell a bigger story.’ I said, ‘Imagine a series of novels like The Lord Of The Rings existed, and we’re adapting them.’ Now, that was great in theory, but then I had to go create the frickin’ novels from which to adapt it.”
Cameron sold the sequels of the project to Fox but he was not so confident until the first film’s record-breaking success. This film eventually bought him Oscar and he admitted that he had to think long and hard about tapping into the world of Pandora once again. Doing so also came with a sense of pressure as he was following up on the billion-dollar success of the first sequel of the film.
‘Avatar’ 3, 4, and 5 To Be A Treat For Fans
Cameron also said, “Things worked out as Avatar: The Way of Water and the threequel is already in the can and ready for release. The Way of Water’s heroes and villains have already been confirmed along with other information related to the sequel.”
Despite so much success from sequels, Cameron is not sure whether he will direct ‘Avatar’ 4 and 5.
The second part, however, will premiere on December 16 this year. Another good news for fans, as the director said sequel 3 is all set to hit the theatre on 20 December 2024.” It is also said the movie will be streaming on Disney+ as well as other streaming platforms.
