With an impressive portfolio adorned with roles in ‘Euphoria‘ and ‘Madame Web‘, Sydney Sweeney is being the daring celebrity wearing multiple hats in her next movie ‘Immaculate‘. At the mere age of 26, Sweeney serves as both producer and lead actress in the film.
As the film hit the theatres, the pressure mounting on her was specifically high because of the box office failure of her last film, ‘Madame Web‘. Immediately after the release of her first production, Sweeney will get busy with the production of the hit series ‘Euphoria‘. As her film has now hit the theatres, Sydney Sweeney has opened up about one crucial aspect she wanted to incorporate into the film.

Sydney Sweeney Wanted To Be The “Female Badass” At The End Of The Film
While Sydney Sweeney had numerous ideas for the film as a producer, there was one crucial request she made. “My big thing was, by the end of the movie, I just wanted to be drenched in blood,” Sweeney said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
She said her wish stemmed from films like ‘Ready or Not‘ and ‘Carrie’. “I love those moments where, at the end of the film, you have the female badass that just went through the wringer and takes it all at the end,” she said.
Sweeney’s wish was not overlooked as her character in the film, Cecilia, is indeed shown drenched in blood at the end of the film. Throughout the film, Sweeney’s character undergoes a harrowing journey. By the film’s end, she discovers that her body has been exploited to give birth against her will to what a deranged priest hopes will be a clone of Jesus Christ.
The only means of escape that she finds to this problem is a bloodied, killing spree — all while she’s in labor. The decision gives the film a twisted narrative that some viewers may find gross. But it was Sweeney’s wish to make a film that has a lasting impact on the viewers and so she did.

‘Immaculate’ Was Aimed To Present A Delicate Balance Between “Levity And Intensity”
However, ‘Immaculate‘ isn’t only blood and gore. It also has some comedic elements, such as a nun casually dropping an f-bomb, and some horror aspects that defy categorization. Sydney Sweeney said that she aimed for a delicate balance between levity and intensity as she worked on ‘Immaculate‘ with director Michael Mohan.
“I am a big fan of all types of horror genres,” Sweeney said. “I love jump scares, so I pushed for a lot of jump scares in the movie. Mike likes a lot of psychological thrillers, so a lot of the longer, more thrilling psychological shots were from him. So it was just a mixture of all of our favorite loves from horror films, and then creatively what’s fun and interesting and exciting and pushes the boundaries to do,“ she added.
A distinctive aspect of ‘Immaculate‘ is that it completely lacks the presence of a supernatural antagonist. Instead, the evil force is entirely human, a conscious choice that Sweeney made and resonated deeply with her.
“The scariest parts of this film were reality and mankind,” she noted. “And I loved the fact that what she was trying to escape and run from was actually growing inside her.”
Other than Sydney Sweeney, ‘Immaculate’ has an ensemble cast including Álvaro Morte, Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, Giorgio Colangeli, and Dora Romano. It is currently showing in theaters.
