Meryl Streep is once again in the headlines, and this time she has shared how Hollywood movies are made today, and why she’s not a fan of ‘that’ style.
The ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2‘ actor shared that films now feel ‘Marvel-ized,’ and that, for her, has taken away the excitement. But what exactly is missing from today’s storytelling that makes her feel so strongly about this?
Meryl Streep Calls Out Repetitive Film Patterns in Hollywood

During her chat on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, Streep explained what exactly feels off. She said many films today follow the same pattern again and again.

“We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it’s so boring,” she said. For her, this kind of setup feels overused and predictable. It takes away the surprise that makes a story exciting.
She also pointed out that big films often stick to what has worked before. That may help them succeed at the box office, but it also makes many stories feel similar, even when they try to look different.
Why Streep Wants More Real and Complex Characters

Streep made it clear that she enjoys stories that feel closer to real life. She said people are not perfect, and that is what makes them interesting.

The ‘Miranda Priestly’ actor also linked this idea to her role in the sequel, where the film itself talks about a lack of “visionaries” and more “vendors.” She added that real life is not simple, and films should show that too.
“What’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths,” she continued.
When characters feel human, the audience connects with them more easily. This is also what she likes about returning as Miranda Priestly in the sequel ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2‘. The character is strong and complex, and not easy to label.
