‘Toy Story 5’ Smashes Past $1 Billion at the Worldwide Box Office
At the time of writing, Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’ has grossed approximately $1.022 billion in worldwide box office revenues, making it the highest-grossing movie in 2026 so far. It has collected $448 million domestically and another $573 million abroad.

Additionally, director Andrew Stanton’s project is the third this year to reach over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, following ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ and ‘Michael.’ Currently, many expect Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Odyssey‘ to take over in the coming weeks.
The movie adaptation of the Greek epic currently has $639.6 million after just two weekends in theaters. Then there is Marvel‘s next major project, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, among others.
It is also expected to have a good chance at becoming the next billion-dollar movie following its release on July 31. Meanwhile, this latest achievement continues the great run of the ‘Toy Story’ franchise.
In a couple of days, box office insiders expect the fifth part to surpass the $1.074 billion record set by ‘Toy Story 4,’ becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing installment. It is also the third ‘Toy Story’ movie with over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, including ‘Toy Story 3,’ at $1.067 billion.

It opened with $160 million in the weekend of June 17, setting both the best start of the year and the franchise’s record start. Great reviews, strong word of mouth, and nostalgic attitudes towards the franchise helped to maintain the film’s momentum during the busy summer box office period.
The soundtrack for the movie was also creating buzz due to the original song by Taylor Swift. Made with a $250 million budget, the movie has also become part of a bigger recovery of big-budget movie theater releases.
With the coronavirus pandemic interrupting theatrical movie releases in 2020, movies crossing the $1 billion mark have become rare. However, in recent years, this number kept growing, and 2026 is expected to be the best year for movies with over $1 billion at the box office.
