Released on June 2, 1989, the movie concentrates on a newly hired English teacher who inspires Welton Academy students.

‘Dead Poets Society’ is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon and besides the great quotes, there is something about these locations that makes you awestruck and takes you back to the colonial atmosphere. Here are all the memorable locations, which made the movie a timeless art.

    Welton Academy

Most of the movie was shot in Welton Academy and the real place is in Middletown, Delaware. The place is a real school that fondly looks back at the legacy of 25 years. The school grounds were also incorporated into the movie scenes and most of the classroom scenes were shot on the production set.

The Cave In ‘Dead Poets Society’

The boys in the movie created a cave house for their poetry sessions by candlelight. The place seems a pretty cozy get-out spot to relax and have a moment to re-gather yourself. Now you may ask where the scene was shot.

The cave is sadly not a real place. Like the classroom, the place was built on the set in the town called New Castle, according to Movie Locations.com. But the cave is based on Delawares’ Only Cave, Beaver Valley Cave.

    Neil Perry’s home

Some of the scenes apart from Welton Academy were shot at Neil Perry’s home. A few of the scenes include Neil and his father played by Kurtwood Smith. The scenes were shot in a real house located in the suburb of New Castle called Westover Hills.

    The Theatre

The biggest heartbreak in the film was when Robert Sean Leonard played the role of Neil Perry, who against the desires of his father took part in the production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream‘ as Puck and was later taken away from his opening night by his father.

The place is an actual theatre in Middletown, Delaware. The theater also fell to its downfall and was later revived in the 1980s.

It also looked back at the 30th-anniversary celebrations of the movie. The place is still a center of movies in a small town. It still has a black seat among all the read ones, where Robin Sean sat during the shoot of ‘Dead Poets Society’.

Who wouldn’t love to visit these places in real life to get closure on the movie? Well, few of these places are open to visitors and some are productions set.

Welton Academy is a proper school therefore it’s not open to visitors to visit. You’re only allowed if you’re a student or a guardian. Further, the place where the cave scene was shot doesn’t allow any visitors as it’s a private place.

Next, Neil Perry’s home is a real home to people. The place being a real residence, is not open for people to visit. Last but not least, the place where the theatre scene was shot was a real theatre so you can visit and enjoy a good time there.

‘Dead Poets Society‘ is available on Netflix.
