‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘ is already a hit movie. Before its theatrical release, it received a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Many actors including Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherina O’Hara reprised their roles from the 1998 OG ‘Beetlejuice‘ movie.
However, Tim Burton didn’t bring back two actors including Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis’s characters Adam Maitland and Barbara Maitland in the sequel for a reason. He recently revealed the real reason why he didn’t bring both the characters back.

Tim Burton Revealed Why Alec Baldwin And Geena Davis Joined ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘
In a recent interview with People., Tim Burton revealed why both Alec and Geena were out of the sequel of the movie. Not only them but Jeffrey Jones also didn’t come back to reprise his role. He said, “I think the thing was for me I didn’t want to just tick any boxes. So even though they were such an amazing integral part of the first one, I was focusing on something else.
Burton continued, “A sequel like this, it really had to do with the time. That was my hook into it, the three generations of mother, daughter, granddaughter. And that [would] be the nucleus of it. I couldn’t have made this personally back in 1989 or whatever.”
Baldwin and Davis play the role of a deceased couple in the first ‘Beetlejuice’ movie, who couldn’t leave the house and tormented the new family.

The Sequel Allows the Couple To Escape The “Loophole”
The sequel finally explains the story of the couple which allows them to leave the narrative. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Davis confirmed that she won’t be appearing in the film. She said, “I‘m not in the remake. Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… Not that I have.”
The actress added, “Our characters were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it’s been a while, it’s been a minute.”
Davis also added that she hasn’t seen the trailer for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘. “Somebody said they were crying, so I have to see the trailer”, she said in the clip which was released in September 2023. However, on Wednesday ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘ received a 4-minute standing ovation during the Venice International Film Festival.
