Tom Cruise Paid For The Promotion Of ‘Jerry Maguire’
The actor Tom Cruise is known to take over the control when he stars in a project. And ‘Jerry Maguire’ was one such project. Being a well-made sports film, the movie has had an impact on the industry in the late 90s. However, the success of the movie lies in the hands of the ‘Mission Impossible’ actor.
The writer and director of the film Cameron Crowe had recounted how the movie was not well-received at the audience testing. Even the studio had its own doubts on whether the audience would get the rapport of the film.
However, Tom Cruise was the one who took the latch and made sure that the movie ‘Jerry Maguire’ reached the public. As Crowe recounted in ‘Here’s the Thing’, Tom flew from London to New York for some promotion.
“And he started on a Monday, did Rosie, did Larry King, did everything … by the end of the week, our numbers were way high. He basically blew us a kiss, went back to England, and the movie opened,” the filmmaker recalled. So basically it was the promotion that Tom Cruise was being paid for.

Tom Cruise Gave His All To The Project
The global fame, Tom Cruise touches every part of a film when he works in it. Cameron Crowe had one time feared that he would lose control over the film. The filmmaker had been warned by his friends about losing his power as the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor comes in. “It just becomes a freight train that’s out of control, and it’s a Hollywood freight train and you’ll be lucky if you see the back of the caboose,” Crowe said to the host Alec Baldwin back then.
The movie ‘Jerry Maguire’ managed to make four times more of its budget in the worldwide box office. The movie went on to have about four Academy nominations including Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Picture. Of this Cuba Gooding Jr. won the Oscar for Best Actor in the Supporting Role.
