Will Gluck Feels ‘Anyone But You’ Is The Last Rom-Com In The History Of Cinema

There was an era when Hollywood was producing sweet romantic comedies that provided comfort to the viewers. There were rom-coms like ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘27 Dresses’, ‘Notting Hill’, and others that provided a fairytale romance that the audience was craving at the moment. Will Gluck give in to the nostalgia and bring us the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell starrer ‘Anyone But You’.

‘Anyone But You’ brings back the trope of haters-to-lovers, but with the dash of the most sizzling chemistry between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Even before the film’s production was completed, there was a lot of drama. There were rumors that Glen was cheating on her ex-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, with Sydney. While Will Gluck entertained the toddler and younger audiences with his early films in his filmography, he has ventured into the rom-com space with ‘Anyone But You’.

In the last decade, the studios focused on making action films and defocused from the feel-good rom-com genre, so Gluck took the responsibility onto himself to create the same nostalgic energy with the Sydney Sweeney starrer.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Will Gluck claimed that ‘Anyone But You’ would be the last rom-com in the history of cinema. The director said, “I really did feel a huge obligation to maybe make the last romcom in the history of cinema and theatricality.”

Will Gluck continued, “I really wanted this to feel big and epic and musical and funny and sexy and edgy and adult in order to get people to experience it in the theater with their friends and their dates.”

He added, “I sound like a pitchman, but I guarantee that when you walk out of this movie, you will have had a good, fun experience, which romcoms always deliver.”
