What Law In California Is Named After Donda West, Mother Of Kanye West?

The rapper Kanye West had a calamitous 2022! He was in the center of controversies and the media did not need to take effort to create any. There was hate in his speech, he spat hate with his diss track for Pete Davidson. Ye became a rebel without a cause, but marred with consequences. It all started on the fateful day in October 2022 when he decided to display his new Yeezy collection at the Paris Fashion Week which had ‘White Lives Matter’ printed on it. This led to the chain of statements and erratic behavior.

Kanye’s father brushed son’s hate spree in a laughing moment. But, fortunately or unfortunately, Ye’s mother Donda West was not here to witness it. If you have known West, he was fond of his mother and considered her his creative inspiration. She was a lone fighter when Donda divorced her husband and shifted bases from Atlanta to Chicago. However, she died in November 2007 due to ‘coronary artery disease’ after a cosmetic surgery complication in Los Angeles. In 2021, Kanye released his 10th studio album ‘Donda’ in 2021 in honor of his mother. But, the Californian State has a law in the name of the ‘College Dropout’ star’s mother.

On November 10th, 2007, Donda West was declared dead. She went through cosmetic surgeries before her death including liposuction and tummy tuck. The autopsy reports revealed that the reason of death may be due to “coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors due to or as a consequence of liposuction and mammoplasty”. Dr. Jan Adams, a cosmetic surgeon performed the surgeries on Donda West.

The doctor had a problematic malpractice history. She suffered from many ailments which did not make her fit to go through a surgery. But, Adams went ahead with it without any pre-examination. In 2008, a year after West’s death, Yolanda Anderson, her niece contacted the then Californian State representative Wilmer Carter to pass a law to prevent any such incidents further. The Senate greenlit the bill, but the Governor did not approve it. However, in 2009, Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill, which was implemented on January 1st, 2010.
