Ellen DeGeneres Is Set To Return After Her Show Got Canceled
Comedian Ellen DeGeneres will make a comeback to Netflix with a brand-new stand-up special. This will be her second stand-up comedy show on the streaming service and what she refers to as her “last special.” The talk-show host and comedian made an earlier appearance in the 2018 Netflix special ‘Relatable‘. It was a part of a two-special deal with Netflix.
Talking about the show, Ellen said, “To answer the questions everyone is asking me — yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, [wife] Portia [de Rossi] really is that pretty in real life,” adding the last bit as a joke.
This will be her second stand-up special for Netflix, but it’s also her first since her 19-season daytime talk show ended in 2022 due to allegations of a toxic workplace and personal criticism that she received in the summer of 2020.

Why Was ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Canceled?
A lot of workers who worked on the show with Ellen had complaints about her behavior, pointing out misconduct, both racial and sexual, and reported the workplace being extremely toxic.
The report depicted a work environment that did not align with Ellen’s “be kind” motto; among other things. Some staff experienced retaliation for lodging complaints and were afraid to take medical leave for fear of being punished.
After the investigation, three of the top producers were fired and Ellen had to issue a public apology where she denied knowledge of the toxic environment but apologized for it nevertheless. She said, “I’m in a position of privilege and power and … I take responsibility for what happens at my show.” Though many expected the show to resume, it didn’t recover after the controversy and was canceled.
Apart from this, the host has also often faced backlash for her treatment of guests on the show. Ellen has a tendency to ask extremely private, uncomfortable questions to guests and many have even called her out for that.
With the exception of the 2023 Discovery Channel documentary Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure and sporadic social media participation, she has largely avoided the spotlight since the controversy. Ellen’s first significant comeback to the comedy industry is with her ‘Last Stand… Up Tour‘. The tour will visit the Bay Area, San Diego, Washington, Oregon, and finally culminate in a new Netflix special that will be filmed this autumn.
