Netflix is taking audiences back to the origins of the ‘Stranger Things’ universe with a brand-new live-action prequel titled ‘Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure.’ The series has officially been confirmed and is expected to arrive in 2028, introducing an entirely different setting and a new group of characters.
‘Other Worlds’ Could Reveal More About Henry Creel’s Origins
Unlike the original series, which revolved around the mysterious town of Hawkins, the upcoming prequel will take place in Marion, Nevada, in 1955. This puts the story decades before the events involving Eleven, Mike, Will, and the rest of the Hawkins gang.

It also takes place before the events of the stage production ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’, which explored Henry Creel’s troubled childhood in 1959. One of the most interesting aspects of the upcoming series is its potential connection to Vecna’s origins.
The Duffer Brothers previously teased that the story would explore events before Henry Creel encountered the mysterious otherworldly substance that eventually gave him his supernatural abilities. This opens the door to exploring some of the franchise’s biggest unanswered questions.
However, the prequel isn’t simply being positioned as another Henry Creel origin story. The creators have also promised new heroes, villains, and mythology, suggesting that Marion will have its own mysteries to uncover.
‘Stranger Things’ Return With A New Creative Team
Matt and Ross Duffer are co-creating the series alongside Kate Trefry, who previously worked on ‘Stranger Things’ and wrote ‘The First Shadow’. Trefry will also serve as the show’s showrunner, giving her considerable creative control over this new chapter.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Joe Wright, known for ‘Atonement’, ‘Pride & Prejudice’, and more, will direct the first three episodes. Production is planned to take place in New Mexico. However, Netflix still hasn’t announced the cast.
With a completely new location, a different decade, and plenty of unexplored supernatural history, ‘Other Worlds’ has an opportunity to expand the franchise without simply repeating the original show’s formula. Now, the biggest question is whether Marion hides something even more terrifying than Hawkins.
