“When You Watch A Zack Snyder Film…”: Christopher Nolan Says Every Sci-Fi Film Has Heavy Influence Of Zack Snyder

Zack Snyder’s filmography is ever-expanding, with the ‘Rebel Moon’ added to it. With the sci-fi films, Snyder aims to create his own universe, serving as an homage to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. After ‘Rebel Moon’ could not become a part of the mammoth franchise, Netflix took the project under its wings, and the first part, ‘Rebel Moon Part One—A Child of Fire’, is streaming on Netflix.

Zack Snyder has broken through the DC Universe after clashes due to creative differences with the studio producers. However, the director has given some memorable films in the DCEU, including ‘Man of Steel’, which made Henry Cavill a household name. Christopher Nolan was one of the producers of the film, and now Nolan has praised Snyder for inspiring the superhero sci-fi films of our time.

Since the ‘Man of Steel’ days, Christopher Nolan has been an ardent supporter of Zack Snyder. Nolan also showed love for his adaptation of the 2009 comic book ‘Watchmen’. Now, after the release of ‘Rebel Moon’, Nolan has continued his streak of supporting a Zack Snyder directorial.

‘Rebel Moon Part One—A Child of Fire’ on Netflix tells an interplanetary tale of the Veldt village, which is under threat of an attack by the Emporium army, and Kora, played by Sofia Boutella, is assigned the task of assembling an army. While the critics have not liked the latest sci-fi venture, Nolan has credited Snyder for influencing contemporary sci-fi projects.

Christopher Nolan said, “There’s no superhero science-fiction film coming out these days where I don’t see some influence of Zack.”

Nolan continued, “When you watch a Zack Snyder film, you see and feel his love for the potential of cinema. The potential of it to be fantastical, to be heightened in its reality, but to move you and to excite you.”

Zack Snyder, in recent interviews, has revealed the inspirations that helped to build the ‘Rebel Moon’ world. The foremost inspiration was ‘Star Wars’, and other films like ‘Blue Velvet’, ‘Blade Runner’, and others helped the director build the sci-fi world. In an interview, ‘Rebel Moon’ star Ed Skrein, who plays the antagonist, Regent Belisarius, said that Snyder wants to make the second part of the Netflix film feel like ‘Dunkirk’.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ was an immersive war film experience. Zack Snyder wants to replicate it in ‘Rebel Moon Part Two—The Scargiver’. Ed told GamesRadar+, “I remember Zack saying with the second movie that he wanted it to feel like Dunkirk. So it’s like, there’s a space at the beginning, and then it’s going off.”

Ed continued, “And it’s really, really going off. And, you know, Return of the King, Lord of the Rings vibes where it’s like, ‘Okay, we kind of know where they’re going.’ It’s like, ‘Alright, now let’s just sit back, eat loads of popcorn, and watch it all kickoff.’”
