The stripes, shield, and star alumnus Chris Evans has bid goodbye to his glorious journey as Captain America. In 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Chris’ Steve Rogers handed the shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. This event ended Rogers’ arc in the MCU. Nevertheless, Anthony Mackie is roped in as the successor of Chris Evans, and Chris is more than excited to see the narrative involving Anthony.
We last saw Anthony play Sam Wilson in the Disney+ series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ In the end, Sam Wilson chose to take over the mantle of ‘Captain America’. While promoting his upcoming Pixar’s ‘Lightyear,’ Chris opened up about Anthony’s takeover of the Captain America franchise.
“He Honestly Does It Justice”: Chris Evans Eager To See Mackie’s Captain America In The Upcoming Sequel
The retirement of Steve Rodgers has not affected Chris Evans a bit. In fact, he is happy that ‘The Heavens Fall’ actor is the successor. Currently, Chris is promoting Pixar’s new film ‘Lightyear,’ where he has lent his voice to the titular character. During a promotional interview, he was asked about Anthony Mackie taking over the franchise. Chris said, “There’s no one better to do it. I mean, he honestly does it justice.”
Evans continued, “I’m so proud of him. I can’t wait to see what they do in the future with it. But if there’s any tear shed [about the role], it’s just for the sweet memories I had.” This is a true gentlemanly gesture from Chris’ side.
For the first time, the world saw Anthony Mackie as Falcon in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’ He played a war veteran who ran a support group for soldiers with PTSD.
Anthony will don the shield, star, and stripes in the upcoming ‘Captain America 4.’ Typical Marvel stunt, the story is still kept under wraps, but the producer Nate Moore revealed what we can expect from the film.
In a podcast, Moore said, “I think he’s not Steve Rogers and I think that’s a good thing. Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation and not a super-soldier. He’s not a hundred years old.
Moore claimed that Wilson will be an ordinary person, “He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America.’ What happens next? I think is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy.”
He continued, “So, we’re going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything. What makes somebody Captain America? I’m going to argue it’s not being a super-soldier. And I think we’re going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson.”
