‘Elemental‘ is the same old Disney story involving two characters from opposing worlds, who fall in love only to create a bridge between people. But the only facet that makes Elemental different is the introduction of a non-binary character. Disney has done great work creating adorable and unique character designs which are mesmerizing to watch, yet could not meet the expectations of the box office.
However, Disney’s first film to introduce a non-binary character became the worst-performing film. Also ‘Elemental‘ is the third film in the latest series of controversial movie and television decisions that Disney has made this year.

‘Elemental’ Suffers Worst Box Office Opening
According to the New York Post, Disney’s Pixar suffered the worst weekend opening from the theatrical release of Elementals. It earned only $29.5 million in its opening weekend. Despite being created by the entertainment giant and with creative direction from Pixar, along with introducing the first non-binary character, Lake, Elemental suffered miserably at the box office.
Variety reported the movie fell short of already-low expectations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie was “iced by moviegoers” along with “The Flash”, starring Ezra Miller, who become the favorite headline due to the 2022 scandal. The actor who voiced Lake, Kai Ava Hauser, posted a tweet confirming the feature of the first non-binary character.

Was 2022 A Good Year For Disney?
Last year Disney lost over $300 million due to the two biggest box office flops, ‘Strange World’ and ‘Lightyear’. Both of these CG-animated movies were criticized for being too “woke”.
‘Strange World’ failed at the box office because it tried to educate children about sexual preferences through the lens of Jaboukie Young-White’s gay character and his teen romance. Also, ‘Lightyear‘, a spin-off of Toy Story received similar criticism after including a lesbian kiss scene and casting Chris Evans over conventional Buzz voice actor Tim Allen.
