What made the couple so bizarre was their almost two decade age difference and their passionate, head-over-heels love for each other. The two met on the set of the film ‘Pushing Tin’ in 1999. Billy was enraptured by the actress, and even though he was engaged to Laura Dern at that time, he still went for a relationship with the ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ star. The two got married the following year.
Their peculiar wedding in Las Vegas even made more headlines, which, agreeably was quite an out-of-the-blue themed wedding, or more commonly called the ‘Shotgun Wedding.‘ Both read their wedding vows wearing casual outfits. Jolie wore slouchy jeans, a tank top, and boots, and Billy wore a simple shirt and black bottoms. Another element of the wedding that grabbed everyone’s attention was the vials that the two wore around their necks, which had each other’s blood in it.
Considering their love-struck moments, it didn’t come as a surprise when Jolie tattooed Billy’s name on the upper part of her left bicep. The tattoo read ‘Billy Bob‘ in bold calligraphic letters. It was paired with a drawing of an Asian-inspired dragon below it. Angelina never shied in showing off her tattoo in the public. It was, after all, a graphic symbol of their love. However, just three years later, the tattoo and its significance dwindled as the two divorced.
What Was The New Tattoo That Jolie Replaced The ‘Billy Bob’ Tattoo With?
The tattoo was a regular reminder of her ex-husband, with whom she was divorced in 2003. The removal of the bold tattoo started soon after the breakup. Jolie got the ink erased through laser surgery. Whatever residues remained on the arm, she covered it with a new tattoo. The new tattoo she got was quite interesting and sweet. It includes the geographical coordinates of all her children’s birthplaces. Ironically, it also includes her ex-husband, Brad Pitt’s birthplace coordinates as well.
Jolie even made a statement to the press, saying she’d never get a man’s name tattooed on her body again. She said, “I’ll never be stupid enough to have a man’s name tattooed on me again. It took 5 visits to the tattoo removal clinic to erase the dragon and you can still see it a bit.”
