In an unfortunate event, Ryan Grantham, the former Riverdale actor killed his mother in April, and on Monday, he pleaded guilty. The 24-year-old actor was presented before the British Columbia Court. During the prosecution, he also admitted that he planned to kill the Liberal Party leader, Justin Trudeau.
Ryan killed his mother on March 31st, 2020 by shooting her in the back of her head while she played piano. Grantham played Jeffrey Augustine in Riverdale, who kills Archie’s mother in an episode in 2019. He is now charged with the second-degree murder of his mother, Barbara Waite.

Ryan Grantham Felt Hopeless And Desired To Commit Violence
The ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid’ actor was brought to the court this week. In the court, the prosecutors shed light on the state of mind of the actor before killing his mother. According to CBC News, “Graham felt hopeless and had a desire to commit violence. He even contemplated suicide with feelings of anger and anxiousness over perceived failures.” As per psychiatric reports, Grantham had been consuming so much cannabis that he fall victim to the cannabis use disorder.
The outlet also reported that the actor rehearsed the murder of his mother, and one of the practices was caught on a Go-Pro Camera. He even filmed a video post the murder, where he said, “I shot her in the back of the head. In the moments after, she would have known it was me.” Hours after the heinous crime, he went out to procure money, beer, and weed and tried to make Molotov Cocktail, a flammable liquid filled in the bottle. He later watched Netflix and covered his mother’s body before going to bed.
The Actor Also Planned To Kill Justin Trudeau
The next day after killing his mother, the ‘Supernatural’ actor lit candles around the dead body. In his private journal and statements, Ryan mentioned that he planned to kill the Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau. The actor filled his bag with 12 Molotov cocktails, three guns, camping essentials, and a map leading to Rideau Cottage, Trudeau’s house.
He left British Columbia and drove towards the east to the Town of Hope. At Vancouver’s Lions Gate Bridge or his alma mater, Simon Fraser University, he planned to commit mass killings. Instead, he took his car to the Vancouver Police Station, and there he confessed his crime “I killed my mother.” Lisa Grantham, sister of Ryan, found the body on the 1st of April, 2020 when Barbara did not respond to her texts and calls.
In her statement, she said, “She [Barbara Waite] was vulnerable and Ryan gave her no chance to defend herself. It pains me to know he was a danger to her life.” Lisa and her aunt fear the release of Ryan from prison. As per The British Columbia Prosecution Service, the minimum eligibility to plead for parole is 10 years for second-degree murder and the maximum is 25 years old. Prosecutors pleaded for a non-parole sentence of up to 17 to 18 years.
