Reasons Behind Kelly McCreary Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Kelly McCreary appeared for one last time as Dr. Maggie Pierce in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ on April 13, 2023. Deadline reported that she already had a discussion with the producers regarding her decision to leave the show and the makers prepared for a proper farewell.
Kelly later stated that she decided to leave the show as she was aiming to play important roles in suspense thrillers. She said, “Well, it was a lot of years but specifically at the end of Season 18, Maggie and Winston were at this challenging crisis, and I just kept thinking about how the show really is about people showing up at the hospital and growing up and learning a lot of hard lessons and becoming the best version of themselves and then at some point, for whatever reason, the actors and characters move on, usually after a pretty long period of time.”
According to Kelly, Dr. Maggie Pierce had already achieved her aims due to which it was important for her to move on. Kelly continued by saying that Maggie intended to discover everything about her family and she always had doubts that Maggie has been able to achieve everything at the end of each season.
