It has been five months since Johnny Depp won the trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. It all started when Johnny Depp sued the ‘Aquaman’ actress for $50 million for defamation. In 2018, the actress wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post chronicling her experience of domestic violence. The actress countersued him, and the trial went on for six long weeks. Since the trial many people took sides. Celebrities like Paul Bettany and Candace Owen supported Depp. While most females like Amy Schumer, Kathy Griffin, and Julia Fox sided with Amber.
In May 2022, Fox commented under an Instagram post about how Heard did not have the power to abuse Johnny Depp. According to her, Depp was always powerful “physically and financially”. Emily Ratajkowski and Julia Fox sat down for a conversation for an episode of the former’s podcast ‘High Low with EmRata’. During the conversation, Fox revealed why she took a stand for Amber Heard.

“None Of Us Are Safe”: Julia Fox Cites Reason For Her Support Towards Amber Heard
It was an unexpected crossover between the ‘Uncut Gems’ actress and Emily Ratajkowski! Fox appeared on Emily’s podcast ‘High Low with EmRata’ to discuss single motherhood, women, and other things. Julia, when she commented in favor of Amber Heard received hate due to siding with an abuser. Amber got a lot of flak, mockery, and made fun of online. There was witch-hunting happening online during the trial. There were memes, mockery, and mimicry happening to take down Heard.
During the podcast, the ‘Gone Girl’ actress asked her about the scrutiny and her take on the domestic violence episode between Depp and Heard. “I feel like there is a little movement on TikTok where, after all the documents were released and people really read everything and read his assistant, or his manager’s testimony — I feel like there was kind of like a backtrack, but still the damage is done.”
She explained why she sided with Amber: “I did have to say something because if it could happen to Amber Heard, who is a white, blonde, beautiful, successful actress because people say that she had no career before but she did. She had over ten movies I think. So, it could really happen to — none of us are safe.”
“Women Are Gonna Suffer From This”: The Model On How Internet Villainized Amber
During the trial, there was a whole different scrutiny happening on the internet. A negative image building was happening for her. During the podcast, while talking about women’s issues like the overturn of ‘Roe Vs. Wade’ verdict, the Iranian women protesting, put forth how villainizing one woman can affect others too.
Fox said, “I just felt compelled to say something. I was like ‘Yeah, you guys are making comments but you don’t realize this is gonna damage women, all of humanity. All of the women in the world are gonna suffer from this.”
Another reason why Julia could empathize with Amber is she also went through abuse. So, it was her prerogative to support another woman who has suffered domestic violence. It is because most people who come out as victims of abuse are women, and people do not believe them.
The model said, “Obviously I always stand up for the women in the situation because I’ve been there and I know how lonely it is and how scary it is when people that you’ve known even your whole life are looking at you funny. It’s like ‘I’m not a liar.’ Call me any name in the book but a liar, that’s not me.”
