Kieran Culkin has emerged as a fan-favorite actor since the release of his hit show ‘Succession‘. The actor also recently made headlines for his charisma during the award shows, especially with the playful banter against his rival star Pedro Pascal.
While he has evidently been doing a commendable job as the lead face of the well-acclaimed show, many might be surprised to know that acting wasn’t really his passion until recently. The actor revealed that he has only recently discovered his fondness for his profession, after nearly three decades in the industry. Here’s what he said.

How First Season Of ‘Succession’ Changed Kieran Culkin’s Approach Towards His Career
Kieran Culkin may have appeared in the headlines more prominently in the recent past as compared to before, but he has been in the industry for quite a while. Culkin first appeared on screen in ‘Home Alone‘ at the mere age of 7. As he continued to be an actor growing up, his passion for the art was lost, or more aptly, buried until now.
Sharing his recent revelation during a Tribeca Film Festival panel for his upcoming movie ‘A Real Pain‘, Culkin said, “It wasn’t until about halfway through the first season of ‘Succession‘ where I came home and told my wife, ‘I think I know what I want to do for a living, I think I want to be an actor,'” Culkin said. “I’d been doing it for about 31 years at that point,” he added.
Growing up in a family of aspiring entertainers also kind of became the reason he just drifted into the acting field initially without really exploring his options. He was managed by his now-estranged father, Kit Culkin. Because of the convenience, Kieran confessed that acting was something he “fell into” rather than chose.
Reflecting on his early career, Culkin explained, “I had that sort of crisis at like 19, 20, which I think is sort of normal. I think a lot of people at that age are trying to figure out what the hell they want to do with their life,” he said.

I don’t know anything, and we’re just going to do it completely differently this time,'” he said.
“And I found a weird freedom in doing something completely unknown that I hadn’t done before and had been forced to trust people that it turns out were great,” he added.
