October 21st, 2021 was an unfortunate day on the sets of Joel D’souza helmed ‘Rust’. The lead actor Alec Baldwin allegedly pulled the trigger of a prop gun which shot the director and the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. The director suffered a shoulder injury, but the fatal accident took the life of Halyna on the sets in New Mexico. It has been a year since the tragic incident and a lot has happened in between that.
The investigation of the incident took place. The family of Halyna Hutchins took the legal route to sue the producer and him. The investigation of the criminal case is still in progress. On October 21st, 2022, Baldwin took to social media to commemorate the deceased cinematographer but received a heavy backlash.

“One Year Ago”: Alec Baldwin Pays Tribute To The Victim Of The Fatal Accident
The filming of ‘Rust’ was halted after the incident. In February, Hutchins’ family sued Alec and the producers. Matthew Hutchins, the Director of Photography’s husband, filed the lawsuit. The lawyer said that the “reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures led to the death of Halyna Hutchins.” It has been eight months since the filing of the lawsuit and a year to the death, and things have started moving ahead slowly.
The civil dispute between them was settled with Matthew coming on board as an executive producer of the film. The filming of the flick began in October. After a year, the scar is still fresh in the minds of the people and the crew. Alec Baldwin, in memory of Hutchins, uploaded a post paying a tribute to her captioning, “One year ago today…”
Though it was an accident, the criminal investigation of how the revolver ended up on the set is still ongoing. The FBI reports suggest that the gun cannot be fired without pulling the trigger. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case. In a statement, the spokesperson of the District Attorney said, “As soon as the District Attorney receives the full report from the Santa Fe County Sheriff, she and her team of professional attorneys and investigators will thoroughly review all the evidence and make a thoughtful decision about whether to bring charges against those involved.
The spokesperson assured, “No one is above the law and every victim deserves justice.”
