One of the most vicious wars in human history is undoubtedly World War 2. The echoes of history still ring through every human’s conscious on how bad humanity can turn to. Given the Russia-Ukraine war and the Palestine-Israel conflict, we are often reminded of the cruelties of humankind. Recently, the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial held the D-day memorial and none other than Hollywood star Tom Hanks attended the event.
The Normandy American Cemetery is a World War II cemetery and memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy. It honors the fallen American troops who were fighting in Europe. And Tom Hanks gave some strong and controversial statements at the event while talking to CNN.

Tom Hanks Talks About The Russia-Ukraine War
The 67-year-old veteran Hollywood actor attended the D-day memorial service at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. There he talked to CNN about the Russia-Ukraine situation. “I never thought there could be a land war in Europe in my lifetime, once again, because it had proven to be so disastrous for all of humanity the last time somebody tried that,” Hanks opined.
“Funny how often it comes out of the ego of one human being,” he continued. “One guy, back in the 1930s says, ‘No, I’m gonna solve all of these problems ’cause I know what works and what does not work.‘” His comment has been thought to be towards Russian president Vladimir Putin whom he compared with Adolf Hitler. Hanks has starred in several war-themed movies himself like ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Greyhound’, and ‘Ithaca’.

Tom Hanks Talks About Upcoming American Elections
The ‘Forest Gump’ actor was asked about the upcoming US elections and the possibility of Trump’s presidency. “I think there’s always reason to be worried about the short term,” he said. “Over the long term, however, we inevitably made progress toward, I think, [a] more perfect union.”
The ‘A Man Called Otto‘ actor continued, “It comes out of the slow melding of the truth to the actual practical life that we end up living.” Tom Hanks added, “It comes down to the good deed that is practiced with your neighbor, with your local merchants, and I will always have faith that the United States of America, and the Western societies that have adopted more or less the same sort of democracy, cannot help but turn towards what is right.”
Tom Hanks also talked about the bravery of the soldiers who gave up their life fighting for their country. “They left absolutely all of the comforts of a very comfortable America, safe America on the other side of the ocean, and they put themselves here, for what?” he said. “Because it was the right thing to do. They were not defending a status quo, they were not gaining territory, they were not here for riches, they were not here to conquer anything. They were really here in order to mend the future,” the two time Oscar winner said in his interview.
