Rory McIlroy shared a lighthearted family moment following his second consecutive Masters Tournament victory. Speaking after his win at Augusta National Golf Club on April 12, 2026, McIlroy joked about why his 5-year-old daughter Poppy enjoys attending the event.
In a clip shared by CBS Sports on TikTok, McIlroy said, “This has definitely turned into Poppy’s favorite week of the year. I don’t know if it’s because of the Par 3 tournament or it’s all you can eat ice cream in the player services building.”
Poppy quickly reacted to her father’s comments, shaking her head and covering her face with her hand, drawing laughs for her adorable response.

During the 2025 Masters, McIlroy said his daughter began to understand his public profile after classmates mentioned it at school.
“I think it was the first time that she sort of realized what I did, which was really cool [and] also a little scary at the same time,” he said. “It’s amazing that I can share these things with her and with Erica.”
He added, “The day after the Players, she went into school, and there’s a couple of kids that had said some stuff to her, and she came home to me that day and said, ‘Daddy, are you famous?’ And, I said ‘It depends who you talk to.”
The Irishman added, “So, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. You have to temper the expectations sometimes, but she’s … an amazing addition to life and it’s great that she’s here this week.”
That same weekend, Poppy drew attention during the Par 3 contest. After hitting a putt, the ball rolled into the hole, prompting cheers from the crowd and a hug from her father. The moment was shared by ESPN on social media.
Following her birth, McIlroy described fatherhood as “amazing” in an interview with Golfweek. He said becoming a parent brought a new perspective, including the experience of developing unconditional love.
