Elon Musk has been at it to make X, aka Twitter, into a 2.0 version of it! However, the billionaire has faced many obstacles while making it into a free-speech haven. After the historic $44 billion deal, Musk faced plummeting finances on X as advertisers fled the platform. Since then, he has been trying to compensate for the lost advertising revenue.
Elon Musk’s X has also been caught in hate speech controversies several times. In 2023, major advertisers fled the microblogging site after a report suggested that X placed their advertisements near pro-Hitler and pro-Nazi content. X allegedly perpetuated misinformation during the riots in Ireland. Despite employing the Community Notes feature, the platform is failing to tackle misinformation. So, Musk has decided to employ the content moderation council, which he dissolved in 2022.

Elon Musk Plans To Hire 100 Employees For The Content Moderation Council
X, aka Twitter, has faced many obstacles in tackling misinformation, hate speech, and exploitative content. When Elon Musk bought the platform, he employed a team called the ‘content moderation council’. After forming the team, he tweeted, “no major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes”.
However, in December 2022, Elon Musk dissolved the content moderation council, aka the Trust and Safety Council. One of the emails sent to the team read that while restructuring the X, they are trying to get external insights, but the content moderation council is not the best one. Since then, the platform has been convened to ensure the curtailment of child exploitation content and hate speech.
Now, Elon Musk’s X will hire 100 employees to control the content moderation council for the new Trust and Safety office in Austin, Texas. The team will work on issues like spam and fraud and will also provide customer support. The decision comes after explicit AI-generated images of Taylor Swift surfaced on the platform.

The European Union Launches A Probe Against Elon For Violating The Guidelines
Elon Musk has been embroiled in several lawsuits as well as probes into both Tesla and X ventures.
Now, after the Ireland riots and the pro-Nazi and pro-Hitler content, the European Union has launched a probe against X for perpetuating hate speech, divisive content, and misinformation on the platform.
The EU will launch a “preliminary probe” into X’s role in spreading misinformation during the Israel-Hamas war.
The VP of the EU’s Executive Commission said in a statement: “The evidence we currently have is enough to formally open a proceeding against X. The Commission will carefully investigate X’s compliance with the DSA, to ensure European citizens are safeguarded online.”
